Education Update with Morah Chana

Author - Camp Yavneh

As we approach the end of the third week of camp, the educational staff, also known as tzevet morim, have been busy developing and implementing fun and thought-provoking learning opportunities. From trying to reach for balloons that adorned the Beit Am ceiling to poking holes in pool noodles to create a cistern or following a treasure map around camp are some of the creative activities that have made learning exciting. The morim add three components to each lesson being taught in their kitot: text from the Tanach, topics supporting scenarios, and great activities.

The topics being covered in kitot for Kayitz ’18 are as follows: Gurim – Reut (friendship)  Gefen -Shabbat/Kedusha (The Sabbath/holiness), Kfirim – Kehilla (community), Aryot – Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), and an array of topics for Leviim and Maalot, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov Stories, Jewish Humor found in the Tanach, Jewish Medical Ethics, just to name a few. The morim have forged wonderful relationships with the chanichim. Each moreh/morah has added their own style and flavor to their kitot.

Our educational goals are pursued through formal and informal educational programming, as well as through a commitment among tzevet morim being wonderful role models and helping to create a culture which encourages all to practice Jewish values.

Shabbat Shalom,

Chana Israel
