Q: Has camp used the off-season and lead-time to think about the health facilities at camp?
We’re so glad you asked! Yes we have! In addition to ensuring we have all the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) necessary to keep our MARP (Health Center) staff healthy, we have taken this year to re-envision and update our beloved MARP.
Currently, we are building out a sizeable expansion to our facility, as well as adding a ramp entrance to be ADA-compliant. A separate entrance will also facilitate the separation of symptoms as needed, especially in this particular summer. We also plan to have an outdoor triage area for any “non-sick” campers (i.e. first aid care – bee stings, splinters, treating a cut, etc.) This area will have privacy for the camper, but enable the staff to work quickly and not cross healthy campers with sick ones.
On the interior, the MARP sleeping areas will all be converted to individual units for camper privacy, the separation of symptoms, and as needed, they can be used as isolation quarters. Much-needed storage space is being added as well to keep the MARP organized and able to best respond to the needs of our community.
