Kayitz 19 – Gefen Third Blog Update

Author - Camp Yavneh

Shalom, Parents!

It has been a fun filled week at the Machane (camp)! We started the week by having an Achla Yom (Trip Day) where we stayed in camp and enjoyed the Kerem Carnival! The carnival was filled with bouncy houses, slides, giant bubble soccer, face paint and a dunk tank where many campers took the opportunity to dunk their madrichim (counselors)! In the afternoon we also got to see Gary the Clown’s amazing show, where some of our own campers had the opportunity to ride unicycles and play with balloon animals!  Though the day was hot, we enjoyed an awesome pizza bagel lunch and finished the day with a dip in the Agam (Lake).

This week we also enjoyed the annual Gefen talent show where we paired with another ayda, Kfirim! The chanichim (campers) were able to show off their incredible array of talents! Each bunk created an act that they performed before the campers had their chance to shine as individuals! On Thursday morning we had a special Rosh Chodesh Women’s Tefillah on the beach with special learning regarding tefillot and jam packed with singing! While the tefillot was happening at the beach, the boys decided to take a spiritual walk to the public beach were they had a nice tefillot discussion. The rest of the day was jam packed with fourth of July fun! Each bunk dressed up in their best red, white and blue and paraded around the camp showing their spirit! That night we ended the day with a camp wide talent show and an incredible firework demonstration while enjoying popcorn and sipping on sodas!

Friday we awoke excited for our second Shabbat together. It was a beautiful day as we welcomed Shabbat with ReliSh and Kabbalat Shabbat! Saturday was a beautiful morning where we enjoyed going in the Agam and spending free time with our friends! The afternoon brought a much needed rain shower to break the heat of the week! Sunday arrived and there was a big surprise for the campers! During lunch the campers were told to put on a bathing suit and pack a towel because we were having an early dinner and going out of camp on an adventure! Little did they know we were taking a trip to the UNH pool where we spent two amazing hours swimming around with our friends and counselors! We are now looking ahead to all the other amazing things that we will be doing this week including our Achla Yom to a hike and beach tomorrow!

B’ahava,

Cara and Meital (Co-Rosh Gefen)
