Maalot – July 20th Updates!

Author - Camp Yavneh

Shalom!

Maalot had an amazing week! On Monday night we had two special treats. First, a delicious steak dinner, and then we went to a minor league baseball game with Gurim, the youngest aydah (age group) at camp. It was Jewish pride night at the game, and we sat next to the chanichim (campers) from another camp. Each Maalot chanich sat with their Gurim buddies. In the afternoon, they made signs supporting the local baseball team, the Fisher Cats, with their buddies so that at the game we could show up as true Fisher Cats fans. We had a great time at the game, cheering on the team, trying to catch foul balls, and bonding with another aydah.

Tuesday we began to work on an exciting event that will happen on Friday that Maalot gets to plan: Maalot Mania, an afternoon of fun and games where Maalot runs small stations of competitions for the chanichim. Of course we also spent part of the day practicing and perfecting our three Zimriyah songs, which we can’t wait to perform in today’s competition. On Tuesday night, we watched Kerem, the oldest aydah, perform the play Damn Yankees. The Kerem chanichim sang their hearts out, and the audience was captivated the whole time.

Wednesday was Achla Yom (trip day) and Maalot had the opportunity to go to the movies and had the choice of seeing either Wonder Woman or Spiderman. When we returned to camp, we continued to plan for Maalot Mania, practiced for Zimriyah, and played the chanichim’s favorite game out on the tennis courts. Tomorrow, we look forward to Zimriyah, but even more so, we can’t wait to be able to show the rest of camp all of the hard work we’ve put in these last few weeks, and to demonstrate how much we love each other and how powerful our aydah can be when we come together.

B’ahavah,

Josh and Helen
