With only 101 days until the first day of Kayitz ’18, we are excited introduce you to some of our amazing staff members. Today, we would like to introduce you to Dave Mitchell. Dave not only does maintenance and construction year round at Yavneh, but during the summer he is also in charge of woodworking, teaching campers essential woodworking skills. We asked Dave to share his answers to the following three questions:
What is your favorite camp activity?
“I enjoy all the activities at camp so I really don’t have a favorite. I like viewing them as a bystander and cheerleader.”
What are you looking forward to most this summer?
“This will be my thirteenth year working at Camp Yavneh. I work at the camp year round. Many days the camp is very quiet with the wind blowing through the trees as the only sound, so what I’m looking forward to the most this summer is the camp coming to life after a long winter rest. Soon I will hear the voices of campers, say hello to staff members and old friends and make new ones. I often pause to watch the campers shouting, laughing, singing and dancing as they rush from place to place. And as always I look forward teaching my craft and interacting with my students.”
Helpful tip for new (and returning) campers?
“One thing I might suggest to not only campers but to any one visiting camp Yavneh would be to take some time to reflect on the surroundings. Listen to the sound of the wind blowing through the beautiful trees, watch sunlight shimmering off ripples on the water, listen to the song of the waves lapping as they hit the beach, the roar of the thunder and the music of the birds by day and the crickets by night. Camp Yavneh truly is a place of beauty. Take these with you as you leave the camp until your return next year.”
