Alumni Spotlight: Adam Aroesty (K’03)

Author - Camp Yavneh

Adam Aroesty (K’03), Is a real estate professional with Kingston Real Estate & Management in Brookline, MA and he recently had the most remarkable milestone of his life – Adam just had the privilege to meet the woman who received his stem cell donation in 2019.

In 2009 on the Boston University campus, Adam approached the Gift of Life table at the Hillel house, looking for some extra karma points. He was swabbed and sent on his way.

Ten years later, Adam received a phone call from a rep at Gift of Life, telling him that he had been matched with a patient suffering from cancer. A feeling of surprise and excitement rushed over Adam as he had totally forgotten about getting swabbed in college! He knew almost nothing about this patient but recognized that donating his stem cells could help SAVE THEIR LIFE. Before Adam knew it, his body was being prepped for collection (March 2019 – see attached photo). Adam’s stem cells were sent off to the patient in Arizona. And that was it. Easy.

Fast forward to today, Adam’s match is completely cancer-free, and living her life happily and healthy. When Adam and his Gift of Life recipient met over Zoom, it was so moving. You can watch it here, but make sure to grab the tissues. (Starts @ 19min)

This month, Adam is participating in Gift of Life Steps for Life Virtual 5K walk and has already surpassed is his $2,500 fundraising goal. All donations go to paying for the Gift of Life swab kits (kit assembly, postage, and lab fees primarily).
