Kfirim June 26th Blog: The First Few Days of Camp

Author - Camp Yavneh

Hello parents and other readers of the Kfirim blog!

While camp has only just begun, we are starting to get into the swing of things, and we have had some fun along the way! Once everyone was unpacked on Sunday, each tzrif (bunk) met to play some icebreaker games and create bunk rules. Per Yavneh tradition, dinner was schnitzel and mashed potatoes- yum! It started to pour, but the rain couldn’t keep us from having a fun opening night peulah (activity). For our peulat erev, the madrichim and Kerem (CITs) for Kfirim introduced themselves, and we did a round robin of more icebreakers and fun games including Waa, Kapayim, Screaming Toes, Ball Name Game, and Team Rock Paper Scissors. We then regrouped and played a game of two truths and a lie about each madrich and Kerem, so the chanichim (campers) could learn more about each one. We ended with Rad Hayom, a closing song we sing each night before the chanichim go back to the tzrifim. After a jam packed afternoon and evening, the chanichim were wiped, and very happy to go to sleep!

On Monday, the whole Machaneh (camp) started together with Mifkad at the flagpole and then broke up for Tefillot (prayers). Kfirim has our own minyan where we can daven together as an aydah. We then had breakfast which was eggs and hash browns, and then went back to the tzrifim for nikayon (cleaning). The chanichim spent their morning doing their chug (elective), taking swim tests for instructional swim, and starting their kitah (class). After a grilled cheese and tomato soup lunch, the chanichim went back to the tzrifim for sha’at menuchah (rest hour). For the afternoon peulot, the banim (boys) had a choice or tennis or volleyball, then hockey, and then kickball. The banot (girls) had a choice or tennis or volleyball, then teva (nature), and then Kangaruach. They then went back to the tzrifim to shower and dinner was spaghetti and meatballs. For peulat erev (evening activity), the banim played Erev Mario Kart, where they raced each other on scooters in the Beit Am (gym) on a track created by the madrichim. There were lots of obstacles in the way- they had a great time navigating the course! The banot did Project Runway, where they paired up with their bunk buddies, and one girl was the model and the other one was the designer. They were tasked with creating an outfit that goes along with a certain theme such as Disney, 80’s, and Superhero. They ended the night with quick dance party.

Kfirim 2018 is off to a great start! We’ve packed so much in, in such a short time frame, and I, along with the rest of my tzevet (staff) can’t wait for all the fun that lies ahead!

B’ahava,

Adina
